RALEIGH, N.C. - The University of Richmond field hockey team suffered a 4-2 loss to Old Dominion in the first round of the NCAA Tournament this afternoon. Richmond ends its season at 18-5 while the Monarchs improve to 14-9.
Old Dominion held a 2-0 halftime advantage as the Spiders were unable to score in the first period.
Less than five minutes into the second half, freshman Amanda Florio's goal cut the deficit to one. The Monarchs goalkeeper was out of the cage and Florio was able to knock the ball in the goal.
Old Dominion tallied two more goals to build a three goal advantage before Richmond freshman Inge van Bogerijen scored at the 66:33 mark off a penalty corner to set the final score at 4-2.
