Spiders Win Weekly Honor Roll

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va.-Senior goalkeeper Mike Nwaneri (Maplewood, N.J.) of men's soccer was named Co-Player of the Week, sophomore Brooke Boncher (West Newbury, Mass.) of the women's swimming team was named the Performer of the Week and freshman Michelle Coombs (Newburg, N.Y.) earned Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference today.
Nwaneri earned his second straight Co-Player of the Week honor after helping Richmond remain undefeated in league play, posting a 1-0 shutout over Fordham on Nov. 1 and earning a 3-1 win over La Salle on Oct. 31. Nwaneri also recorded his first career assist after his goal kick found the foot of Colin Vint who scored the third goal versus La Salle. He has recorded a league-high seven shutouts, which is also a program mark, and he currently leads the Southeast Region with 95 saves on the season.
Boncher set a school record in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:02.80 and posted a NCAA "B" qualifying time in the 100-yard butterfly (55.36), placing first in both events, in Richmond's home-opening win over Georgia Southern (172-94) on Nov. 1. She won the 100-yard butterfly in a pool record time of 55:43 in the Spiders' season opener at Virginia Tech on Oct. 29 and also won the 50-yard free (23.90) and 100-yard free (52.06) versus Virginia Tech. The previous Richmond record in the 200-yard butterfly was 2:07.13, set in 1998 by Jamie Shriver.
In her first collegiate meet on Oct. 29, Coombs placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (58:49) and swam a leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:46.36). On Nov. 2 versus Georgia Southern, she won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:53.33 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:06.59.
