Field Hockey is Set to Defend A-10 Title This Weekend

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond field hockey team looks to defend their Atlantic 10 title this weekend, November 7-8, at the conference championships in Philadelphia, Pa. The tournament will feature the top four teams in the A-10, Richmond, Temple, Saint Joseph's and West Chester. The Spiders are the #1 seed, after capturing the league's regular season title with a perfect 6-0 record, and will face fourth-seeded West Chester at noon on Friday.
This is Richmond's third consecutive appearance in the tournament and second with an undefeated conference record. The Spiders have posted their best-ever record, 16-3, and the highest national ranking, 12th, in program history. In national statistics, sophomore Allie Howard is tied for 20th in points with 37 and assists with 11. Junior Laura Hur is tied for 15th with 12 assists, senior Lydia Decembrino is tied for 10th in the country with six defensive saves and sophomore Michelle Swartz is seventh with a GAA of 1.10.
Richmond defeated the Golden Rams 4-0 in the first meeting this season. West Chester posts a 6-11 overall record and 3-3 in the league, having defeated LaSalle, Rhode Island and Massachusetts to grab the fourth seed in the tournament.
The second game on Friday will feature second-seeded Temple versus third-seed Saint Joseph's at 2:00 p.m. The winners of the contests on Friday will meet in the championship game at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
