UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman Inge van Bogerijen (Zeist, The Netherlands) scored two goals to lead the University of Richmond field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over West Chester this afternoon in the semi-finals of the Atlantic 10 Championships. The Spiders improve to 17-3 on the year as West Chester ends their season at 6-13.
Sophomore Allie Howard (Lancaster, Pa.) gave the Spiders a 1-0 halftime advantage with her unassisted goal less then ten minutes into the contest. Richmond took 12 shots in the first half but was unable to tally additional scores.
In second half action, van Bogerijen took a pass from sophomore Lesley Russell (Houston, Texas) and blasted a shot past the West Chester goalkeeper at the 39:40 mark. The Spiders' final score came from van Bogerijen off a penalty corner with an assist from Howard.
Richmond recorded 18 shots to West Chester's one.
The Spiders will play for a second consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship tomorrow, November 8, at 1:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa. They will play the winner of the Saint Joseph's and Temple contest in today's second semi-final.
