Women's Basketball Cruises Past William & Mary 87-58

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Junior Kate Flavin recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 19 points and ten rebounds to lead the University of Richmond women's basketball team to an 87-58 win over William & Mary this afternoon at the Robins Center. The Spiders improve to 7-3 while the Tribe falls to 3-5.
Senior Amber Goppert scored 14 points and added six assists for the Spiders while Saona Chapman contributed 15, connecting on four three-point baskets. Freshman Kelly Roche scored a career-high nine points.
Both Kelly Ercole and Lindsay Brizendine scored 13 points for William & Mary.
The Tribe held an early advantage before Richmond took their first double-digit lead of the game with just over ten minutes remaining in the half after consecutive three-point baskets from Chapman. William & Mary reduced the deficit to eight at the 2:27 mark before the Spiders closed the half with a 9-0 run.
In second half action, Richmond took their largest lead of the game (41) with eight minutes left in the contest with a jumper from Kelly Roche before claiming the 87-58 win.
All 11 Richmond players saw game action as both Melissa Dymek and Sandie Walker scored their first points of the season.
The Spiders shot over .500 from both the field and the three-point line for the second time this season.
Richmond is back in action on Wednesday, December 31 at 2:00 p.m. when they host cross-town rival VCU.
