Freshman Swimmer Sweeps Atlantic 10 Honor Roll

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman Brooke Boncher (West Newbury, Mass.) swept the women's swimming and diving awards grabbing both the Atlantic 10 Performer and Rookie of the Week citations for February 3. Boncher previously received A-10 Rookie of the Week for the weeks of November 18, November 25, and January 20. Boncher has also received College Swimming.com's Swimmer of the Week for Jan. 13-19.
Claiming her third record of the year, Boncher shattered teammate Mary Adams' 2:06.25 200-yard butterfly record against Navy on Saturday, February 1. The freshman standout set the new time to beat at 2:05.32. In her final rookie home dual meet, Boncher also grabbed top honors in the 100-yard butterfly (55.94) and 100-yard freestyle (51.93).
Earlier in the week, Richmond traveled to George Washington on Wednesday, January 29. In that dual meet, Boncher took first place in all three individual events - 100-yard butterfly (57.21), 50-yard freestyle (23.65), and 200-yard freestyle (1:54.17). In both of last week's meets, Boncher swam a leg of the 200- and 400-yard medley relay (1:49.47 at GW, 3:56.74 vs. Navy).
The freestyler also holds records in the 50-yard freestyle (23.52) and 100-yard freestyle (50.92). Boncher has left her mark at Columbia's Uris pool setting the record for the 100-yard butterfly (56.90).
Boncher and the Spiders will return to the pool at the Atlantic 10 swimming and diving championships February 20 through 22 in Buffalo, N.Y.
