UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - After claiming their second-consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship, University of Richmond swimmers Mary Adams (Williamsburg, Va.), Brooke Boncher (West Newbury, Mass.), and Elizabeth Cook (Rockville, Va.) will compete in the Phillips 66 U.S. Swimming Nationals on April 2-5.
Adams, the 2003 Atlantic 10 Performer of the Year, will compete in the 200-yard and 400-yard individual medley, along with the 200-yard breaststroke. The sophomore swimmer has posted record-setting marks in both individual medleys, 2:02.56 in the 200-yard and 4:18.54 in the 400-yard. Along with top times in the individual medleys, Adams also recorded the 200-yard breaststroke record with a 2:18.40 swim.
An Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and two-time CollegeSwimming.com's Swimmer of the Week, Boncher will race in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle, as well as the 100-yard butterfly. The freshman standout broke records in all three events during the year. Boncher demolished the 50-yard freestyle record four times before setting the final record at 23.32. In the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, she posted marks of 50.78 and 55.28.
Cook joins Adams and Boncher at U.S. Nationals, competing in both the 200-yard and 400-yard individual medleys and the 200-yard backstroke. Cook also enters the meet holding a Spider record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:02.72. The senior swimmer posts the second-best times in the 200-yard (2:03.27) and 400-yard (4:23.91) individual medleys behind teammate Adams.
