
Women's Lacrosse Defeats William and Mary, 17-14

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Four players scored three goals each to lead the University of Richmond to a 17-14 win over William and Mary this afternoon at Busch Field. Richmond, now on a four-game winning streak, improves to 5-4 on the season while the Tribe falls to 1-9.
Seniors Katie Dolan (Towson. Md.) and Kristy Gallagher (Chatsworth, N.J.) and sophomore Kristen Habicht (Baltimore, Md.) each contributed three goals for the Spiders. Junior Polly Purcell, the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, added three tallies and two assists. Freshman Caroline McGuire (Darien, Conn.) chipped in two goals for the Richmond.
William and Mary was led by Allison Evans' five goals and three scores from Morgan Watkins.
Richmond quickly took a 3-0 lead within the game's opening five minutes off goals from Habicht, McGuire and Gallagher. The teams exchanged tallies during the following six minutes of action before Richmond's Habicht scored her second goal of the afternoon to put the score at 6-2. The Tribe notched two unanswered goals before the Spiders were able to knock the ball in the net again.
Freshman Sara Allen (Rosement, Pa.) finished the feed from Purcell and two minutes later, Dolan again found the net for the Spiders. The squads again exchanged goals before Gallagher ended the half with an additional tally for Richmond to set the halftime margin at 11-6.
The Spiders opened the second half with four unanswered goals to take a commanding 15-6 lead just five minutes into the period. The Tribe scored eight goals to Richmond's two during the remainder of the game, but the Spiders left with the 17-14 victory.
Richmond faces Saint Joseph's on Friday, April 4 at 4:00 p.m.
