UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman third baseman Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) received his league-leading fourth Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor. Senior runner Ruth Chege (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earned her second Performer of the Week accolade.
Zeskind stroked a pair of three-hit games in Richmond's three-game series sweep of Dayton. The third baseman batted .500 for the week, going 7-for-14 with two RBI. He scored the game-winning run on Vito Chiaravalloti's (Middletown, N.J.) single in Richmond's 5-4 win over Dayton on Saturday, April 12. Zeskind currently leads the team with a .413 batting average.
Chege received the A-10's co-Performer of the Week citation after racing to a 4:24.00 NCAA Regional qualifying time in the 1,500-meter. She posted the second-fastest time in school history after Josephine White's 1982 mark of 4:19.9. The two-time honoree also tallied the fastest time in the A-10 this season with her first-place finish among collegiate competition.
Zeskind and the Spiders return to action, tomorrow, April 15 at 3 p.m. at Towson, while Richmond track and field returns to action April 19 at the Nittany Lion Invite.
