UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond men's cross country team earned their second consecutive All-Academic Cross Country Team, with Distinction after posting a 3.43 GPA for the 2002-03 academic year. The Spiders moved up 17 places from last year's 22nd ranking to fifth place for 2002-03.
"Like all of our sports teams these men work hard in the classroom to represent the athletic department and the entire university community," stated head coach Steve Taylor. "One of our team goals was to have the men ranked in the top five in this area. They met the goal and we could not be happier."
Richmond is just one of two Atlantic 10 teams to receive the accolade, with Dayton also earning the honor.
To earn All-Academic with Distinction, a team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better. Teams with a 3.00 GPA and above earn All-Academic honors.
