
Women's Lacrosse Dominates St. Bonaventure, 17-6

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Libby Berlacher (Villanova, Pa.) scored six goals to lead the University of Richmond women's lacrosse team to a 17-6 victory over St. Bonaventure this afternoon in the Spiders' final home game of the season. Richmond, winning its third consecutive contest, improves to 10-6, 5-2 in the Atlantic 10 while St. Bonaventure falls to 11-3, 2-3 in the conference.
Richmond's five seniors Katie Dolan (Towson, Md.), Brooke Garnett (Mount Kisco, N.Y.), Kristy Gallagher (Chatsworth, N.J.), Kelly Johnson (Crownsville, Md.) and Ashley Vizzi (York, Pa.) were honored in a brief pre-game ceremony.
Dolan and freshman Sara Allen (Rosemont, Pa.) each scored a trio of goals and Gallagher added a pair off two free position shots. Other Richmond players scoring were Garnett, Caroline McGuire (Darien, Conn.) and Polly Purcell (Ellicott City, Md.). Purcell recorded four assists in the win.
Richmond scored its first goal just 30 seconds into the contest and took a lead it would not relinquish. The Spiders tallied three more goals to take a 4-0 advantage before the Bonnies got on the scoreboard with a goal from Nicole Montondo with ten minutes remaining in the half.
Both teams added additional scores before Richmond rattled off four unanswered goals, including back-to-back tallies from Berlacher, to build a 9-2 advantage. St. Bonaventure scored with 16 seconds left to set the halftime score at 9-3.
Richmond's Allen opened scoring in the second half, scoring two goals in a three-minute span, to increase the Spiders' edge to 11-3. The Spiders outscored the Bonnies 6-3 throughout the remainder of the game to take to 17-6 win.
Richmond returns to action for the Atlantic 10 Championships, held May 2 and 3 in Philadelphia.
