Lacrosse Falls In Atlantic 10 Semifinals

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Juniors Libby Berlacher and Polly Purcell both tallied three goals but the Spiders dropped a 12-11 overtime decision to Massachusetts in the Atlantic 10 Tournament Semifinals.
The Spiders (10-7) raced out to a 6-3 halftime lead and then scored five of the first six goals in the second half to lead 11-4 with 8:17 remaining. Massachusetts (11-6) stormed back and knotted the score 11-11 with just :28 seconds to play in regulation. With just :48 seconds remaining in the extra period, Maura McGarrity pushed in the game-winning tally.
In addition to Purcell and Berlacher's three goals, senior Katie Dolan and sophomore Kristen Habicht both scored twice. Senior Kristy Gallagher, an All-Conference honoree along with Purcell, scored the other Spider goal.
Freshman Jennifer McGibbon made eight saves for the Spiders. The Minutewomen's Cyndi Doyle made 10 saves in the win.
UMass faces top-seed Temple at 1 p.m. on Saturday for a chance to earn the Atlantic 10's bid to the NCAA Tournament.
