No. 14 Baseball Clinches West Division Title With Sweep of George Washington, 12-1

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Senior shortstop David Reaver (Union Bridge, Md.) and junior catcher Adam Tidball (Bethesda, Md.) combined to go 7-for-10 with five runs and four RBI in Richmond's 12-1 win over George Washington, clinching the Spiders' second consecutive Atlantic 10 West Division title. Senior righty Mike McGirr (Lexington, Mass.) hurled three no-hit innings and tied a career-high with nine strikeouts to earn his sixth win of the spring. With the three-game series sweep, Richmond improves to 39-8, 17-3 Atlantic 10, while George Washington falls to 30-15, 7-8 A-10.
Prior to the first pitch, the Spiders honored seniors Vito Chiaravalloti (Middletown, N.J.), Chris Dolan (Holmdel, N.J.), Michael Galligan (Woodbury, N.Y.), Andy Givens (Bel Air, Md.), Joe Larkin (Media, Pa.), McGirr, and Reaver for their contributions to Richmond baseball.
Richmond's leftfielder, Galligan, stroked a two-RBI single to left center to score Reaver and designated hitter Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) for a 2-0 lead in the first.
Tidball led off the second with a double down the left field line. Second baseman Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del.) followed with a single into right, which sent Tidball to third. LeNoir took second on a wild pitch, before centerfielder Bryan Pritz (Wilmette, Ill.) drew a walk to load the bases. Tidball touched home on a Reaver single to centerfield. LeNoir then crossed home on a Zeskind groundout. First baseman Jim Fasano (Horsham, Pa.) cleared the bases with a single to right field, scoring Pritz and Reaver, giving the Spiders a 6-0 lead.
In the sixth, LeNoir reached after being hit by GW's Paul Garner and then stole second. The second baseman touched home on a Reaver sacrifice fly. Pritz added the second run of the sixth after reaching on a Colonial error, stealing second, and advancing to third and home on wild pitches.
Tidball added two more runs in the seventh with a two-run shot over the left field fence that also scored third baseman David Thomas (McLean, Va.). In the eighth, Galligan started things off with a single to left field. Tidball followed, stroking his fourth hit of the day, to left field. Galligan then scored on a Pritz sacrifice fly. Tidball crossed the plate for the 12th and final run on an A.J. Board (Raleigh, N.C.) line drive to third base.
George Washington was able to score their only run of the day in the seventh on a Chris Barry groundout.
McGirr improved to 6-1 after throwing 7.0 innings. He scattered four hits and did not allow an earned run. Relievers John Cronin (Brookfield, Conn.) and Larkin combined for a shutout in the final 2.0 innings. George Washington's Josh Wilkie fell to 5-2 after giving up six runs in 1.1 innings.
Richmond hits the road for a Tuesday, May 6th match-up against Radford. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
