Richmond Defeats New Hampshire 4-1

UNIVERSITY of RICHMOND- Sophomore Liana Wooten (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) had two goals and an assist to lead Richmond (1-0-1) to a 4-1 win over New Hampshire (1-3-0) in the second round of the James Madison/Comfort Inn Invitational Tournament.
Wooten's first goal came at the 27:25 mark as she connected on a diving header off a cross from senior Molly Rettig (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin). Wooten assisted on the go- ahead goal by sophomore Whitney Sikes (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville) at 31:56 to give Richmond a 2-1 lead.
Freshman Brooke Binswanger (Memphis, Tenn./Hutchison School) and Wooten added insurance goals at 48:20 and 83:08 respectively. Senior Goalkeeper Megan Cox had three saves, while New Hampshire goalkeeper Liz MacKay had 10 saves in the game.
Seniors Molly Rettig (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin), Edda Gardarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Briedholti)and Wooten were all named to the James Madison/Comfort Inn All-Tournament team.
The Wildcats took at 1-0 lead at the 24:39 mark when junior Chiara Best (Rose Valley, Pa./Strath Haven) capitalized on a defensive turnover by the Spiders and scored the games opening goal.
The Spiders will be in action at Tennesse on Friday, September 12 at 8:00p.m.
