Women's Basketball Downs La Salle 74-50

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore Saona Chapman connected on five of seven attempts from behind the three-point line to lead the University of Richmond women's basketball team to a 74-50 victory over La Salle University tonight at the Robins Center. The Spiders, earning their sixth consecutive win and posting a perfect 6-0 home record, improve to 12-3, 4-0 in the conference while the Explorers suffer their third consecutive loss, falling to 8-6, 1-3 in Atlantic 10.
Chapman scored 17 of her 23 points in the first half after hitting seven shots, including a trio of threes. Junior Kate Flavin added 16 points and sophomore Araceli Gil contributed 11. All ten Richmond players scored points for the Spiders.
Meghan Wilkinson was the only Explorer to reach double-figures with 13 points.
Richmond shot a season-high .667 percent from three-point range, hitting ten of 15 shots.
The Spiders took their first double-digit lead of the game at the 11:34 point off freshman DeUnna Hendrix's three-point basket. After a pair of free throws from Gil, four of the Spiders' next five baskets were from beyond the arc as both Chapman and Gil connected on two a piece. Richmond ended the half with a 9-4 scoring run to take a 48-22 halftime lead.
Senior Melissa Dymek's first three of the season gave Richmond their largest lead of the contest (32) with just over 12 minutes remaining.
Richmond dominated on the boards, grabbing 40 rebounds to the Explorers' 28.
The Spiders are back in action on Friday, January 16 when they travel to the nation's capital and face George Washington at 7:00 p.m.
