Women's Basketball Falls to George Washington 86-60

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of Richmond women's basketball team suffered their first conference loss tonight as they fell to George Washington 86-60 at the Smith Center. The Spiders fall to 12-4 overall, 4-1 in the Atlantic 10 and the Colonials improve to 10-5, 3-1 in the conference.
With 15 points, junior Kate Flavin became the 13th member of Richmond's 1,000 Point Club. She recorded her conference leading eighth double-double of the season with a game-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore Saona Chapman and freshman Christina Campion each scored 17 points for the Spiders.
Three Colonial players reached double-figures with Cathy Joens leading the team with 22 points off a 6-8 performance from beyond the arc.
George Washington took its first double-digit lead of the game at the 13:55 mark from Liz Dancause's driving lay-up. The Colonials held the Spiders scoreless for almost six minutes while building a 20 point advantage.
Richmond shot a season-low 19.4% from the field in the first half and only connected on six shots.
The Colonials took their largest lead of the game (46) with just under ten minutes remaining in the game.
The Spiders grabbed 13 offensive rebounds and recorded 11 second chance points in comparison to the Colonials' seven.
George Washington dominated in the paint, scoring twice as many points there as the Spiders.
Richmond is back in action on Sunday, January 18 when they host Duquesne at 2:00 p.m.
