Swimming Sneaks Past N.C. State

Harrisonburg, Va.-Junior Mary Adams (Williamsburg, Va.) led the University of Richmond women's swimming team, for the second day in a row, with three individual victories, as the Spiders edged by N.C. State, 121.5-120.5, today.
Adams repeated her tri-stellar performance from yesterday by claiming the 400 IM (4:23.25), 200 back (2:06.21) and 200 breast (2:21.94). Her 400 IM earned NCAA "B" standards.
Sophomore Brooke Boncher (West Newbury, Mass.) won the 50 free (23.39) in a NCAA "B" standard time, while claiming the 200 fly (2:03.03). Boncher also contributed to the 200-medley relay that finished at 1:47.94. Her teammates included seniors Calla DeRuosi (Richmond, Va.) and Maureen Sabri (Chambersburg, Pa.) and freshman Kara Swift (Haddonfield, N.J.).
Freshman Holly Hinds (Andover, Mass.) was the other multi-winner. She grabbed the 500 free in 5:02.03 and swam a leg of the 400 free relay (3:31.59) that consisted of Sabri, and freshmen Emily Bateman (Somers Point, N.J.), and Michelle Coombs (Newburg, N.Y.).
As a team, the Spiders combined to set six pool records at Savage Natatorium, on JMU's campus. The records were in the 200 medley relay, 400 free relay, 50 free, 200 fly, 200 back and 400 IM.
Richmond returns to action on Jan. 23rd against Wagner and Wingate in a home meet slated for 5 p.m.
