Swimming Hosts A-10 Foe George Washington

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va.- The University of Richmond women's swimming and diving team faces A-10 foe George Washington, TODAY, at 4 p.m. in the Robins Center Natatorium. This meet marks the final home dual-meet for seniors Calla DeRuosi (Richmond, Va.), Casey Dluhos (Savannah, Ga.), Maureen Sabri (Chambersburg, Pa.), Laura Thomas (Sydney, Australia) and Julie Waizenhofer (Mason, Ohio). The Spiders' (8-3) times lead the conference in every swimming event, but the Colonials (3-3) are a close second in several events.
The Spiders have won six of their last seven match-ups, including four-consecutive. Richmond defeated Wagner (159-106) and Wingate (157-97) last weekend with 11 of 15 first-place finishes. Freshman Michelle Coombs (Newburg, N.Y.) is this week's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week after claiming the 100 and 200-yard backstrokes, 58.77 and 2:07.37, respectively. She is currently atop the conference markings in the 100 backstroke (57.01) and 200 freestyle (1:51.58).
The Colonials split their tri-meet held on Jan. 20th with a win over William and Mary (129-113), while falling to UMBC (138-100). GW was led by senior Kristen Fagley who finished first in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:04.78. Her 500-yard free time of 4:58.31 is currently ranked second in the A-10 behind Richmond freshman Holly Hinds (Andover, Mass.) by nearly three seconds.
The Spiders' last home meet features Randolph Macon and the Virginia Masters Swim Team on Friday, Jan. 30th at 7 p.m.
