Spiders Run At Indiana State Invitational

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Richmond cross country teams finished their fifth competition of the year with a 27th and seventh-place finish at the Indiana State Invitational, Saturday, in Terre Haute, Ind.
The Spider women, who competed in the events top race of the day (the blue competition) came in 27th with a total of 704 points. Richmond's men earned a total of 192 points for a seventh-place finish in the men's open competition.
Stanford, the top-ranked women's team in the country, earned the blue race's top spot with 49 points. Notre Dame came in second with 111, and was followed by North Carolina's 129-point performance. On the men's side Southern Illinois earned 51 points, while South Dakota State finished with 72 points in the open competition. Ohio rounded out the Top-3 with 97 points.
Sophomore Amanda Russell led the Spiders with a 61st-place finish. Her time of 21:49.6 was just 10 seconds slower than her previous 6K season best of 21:39.4. Freshman Kate Merrill came in second on the Richmond squad with an 86th-place finish in 22:06.0. Junior Nicole Kurtain wrapped up the Spiders' Top-3 in 22:37.5 for 151st place.
Sophomore John Ciccarelli was Richmond's top overall runner earning 16th in the men's 8K open race. The South Bury, Conn., native ran a time of 25:24.3. Freshman Hunter Willis earned 88th place in a time of 26:25.3. Senior Pat Barkhuff finished third for Richmond in a time of 26:51.9 good for 118th place.

Richmond begins its final stretch of events, Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Atlantic 10 Championships. Competition is set to begin mid-morning in Pittsburgh, Pa.
