UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - After completing its third consecutive undefeated conferences season, the Richmond field hockey squad (14-2, 6-0) broke into the STX/NFHCA poll's Top-10, Oct. 26.
The Spiders, who close out their regular season at home this weekend, have not been ranked above No. 11 this season where it appeared in the poll's first release, Sept 14. The 10th-place ranking ties the highest spot Richmond has ever been in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, after finishing the 2003 campaign at No. 10.
Five Richmond opponents appear in the most recent edition of the poll, including two in the Top 8. Old Dominion and American, the teams responsible for Richmond's only losses this season, are ranked at No. 7 and No. 8, respectively. William and Mary, which the Spiders topped, 3-2, is ranked No. 13. Virginia is ranked No. 16, while Syracuse rounds out the Top-20 at No. 20.
The Spiders will honor their two seniors, Danica Haupt and Laura Hur, Saturday afternoon prior to their 2:30 p.m. contest against Appalachian State at Crenshaw Field.
