Women's Lacrosse Falls to #2 Maryland 16-6

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore Allison Nuzzi recorded her first career hat trick with four goals but it wasn't enough as the University of Richmond women's lacrosse team suffered a season-opening 16-6 loss to #2 Maryland this afternoon.
The Spiders (0-1) tried to slow the pace down by holding possession, but Maryland (1-0) scored the game's first three goals and seven of the first eight to force the action.
After a Richmond goal by Allison Nuzzi to cut the lead to 3-1, the Terps rattled off four more scores to take a six-goal margin. .
Nuzzi's score cut the lead to 7-3 at the end the first half and added another to begin the second, but that was as close as the Spiders would get after the Terps scored three straight. Maryland was able to control possession the rest of the way, scoring six of the game's last eight goals. Maryland out-shot Richmond 17-8 in the second half and had a 33-15 advantage in shots for the entire game.
Richmond was paced by Nuzzi's game-high four goals. Polly Purcell added a goal and two assists for the Spiders.
Richmond will play its home-opener on Friday, March 5, when they host Virginia at 3:30 p.m.
