Spiders Top William & Mary on the Road, Rode Reaches Career Milestone

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team cruised past William & Mary 16-11 in a midweek matchup Wednesday afternoon at Martin Family Stadium. In the win, junior Meghan Rode surpassed 100 career draw controls.

With the victory, the Spiders improved to 2-1, while the Tribe fell to 1-2. Richmond saw nine different goal scorers and 17 Spiders record statistics.

Alexis Morton tied a career high with eight points on five goals and three assists. Rode posted a career-best six points with one goal and five assists. Bridget Lonsinger also tied a career high with four points on two goals and two assists. Anya Wardle added a career-high four points with one goal and three assists.

Charlotte Edwards recorded a hat trick, while Juliana Stanley scored a goal and added an assist. Rileigh Meyer, Keating Hopkins and Chloe Conti each netted one goal.

In the draw circle, Rode collected a career-high 14 draw controls to surpass the 100 mark for her career.

Quinn Meyer led the defense with one ground ball and one caused turnover.

In goal, Abby Francioli made seven saves in 49:43 of action, while Maggie Mullen added two saves in 10:17.

William & Mary opened the game with back-to-back goals to take a 2-0 lead. Richmond responded with five straight goals to go ahead 5-2 with 8:14 left in the second quarter. After the teams exchanged goals the rest of the half, the Spiders carried a 7-4 advantage into halftime.

The Tribe scored early in the second half to cut the deficit to 7-5, but Richmond answered with four goals in the third quarter to extend the lead to 11-6. The Spiders sealed the 16-11 victory by outscoring William & Mary 5-4 in the fourth quarter.

Richmond returns home next to face No. 23 Duke. The opening draw is set for Saturday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. at Robins Stadium.
