Women's Basketball Flies Past St. Bonaventure 80-52

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Four players scored in double-figures as the University of Richmond women's basketball team defeated St. Bonaventure 80-52 today at the Robins Center in their final regular season contest of the year. With their sixth consecutive win, the Spiders improve to 19-8, 11-5 while the Bonnies fall to 9-18, 5-11.
Senior Amber Goppert led all scorers with 18 points and recorded a game-high six assists. Sophomore Saona Chapman scored 15, hitting four three-point baskets in the first half, and Kate Flavin added 13. Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Christina Campion was one rebound short of her third straight double-double with 12 points and nine boards.
Junior Caitlin Crist scored a team-high 12 points for the Bonnies.
Richmond set the pace for the game in the opening possession when Chapman's steal resulted in a fast-break lay-up from Flavin. Flavin gave Richmond its first double-digit lead with her lay-up just six minutes later.
The Bonnies got within six points with eight minutes remaining but the Spiders scored on their next two possessions and rebuilt a double-figure lead. St. Bonaventure missed ten of its final 11 shots and the Spiders held a 42-22 advantage at the break.
Richmond held a 20+ point lead for the majority of the second half.
The Spiders forced St. Bonaventure into 23 turnovers and scored 26 points off those mistakes.
Richmond returns to action in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, held March 5-8 in Philadelphia, Pa. As the #2 seed in the West Division, the Spiders earned a first-round bye and will play the winner of #3 Rhode Island and #6 Dayton on Saturday, March 6 at 6:00 p.m.
