Baseball Falls to VMI, 3-1

LEXINGTON, Va. - Senior Matt McLoughlin (Del Mar, Calif.) struck out two and allowed five hits in the University of Richmond's, 3-1, loss to Virginia Military Institute this afternoon in Lexington, Va. Before today the Spiders had won the last 19 meetings against the Keydets.
Senior A.J. Board (Raleigh, N.C) led the Spiders with two hits and one run and the Keydets' center fielder Brandon Massenburg posted a double, one run and one RBI.
Richmond took the lead and tallied its only run of the game in the second. Board doubled down the left field line and advanced to third on a passed ball and then designated hitter Alex Wotring (Bethesda, Md.) knocked in Board.
After three scoreless innings, VMI responded with two runs on two hits. Elliott Erbe doubled and then scored on a double, to right center field, by Massenburg. Left fielder Jacoby Fields knocked in Massenburg. The Keydets' posted their final run in the seventh inning.
VMI's Corey Bachman struck out one and allowed one hit in his 1.2 innings pitched to record his first win of the season. McLoughlin took the loss for the Spiders and posts a 1-1 record.
The Spiders return to the field on Saturday and Sunday, March 20-21 when they host Penn State, both contests are scheduled for 1 p.m.
