Baseball Defeats Fordham 5-4 In Final Game of Series

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, VA. - The University of Richmond baseball team posted three runs in the eighth inning to defeat conference rival Fordham Rams 5-4 in the final contest of the three-game series, this afternoon at Pitt Field.
A.J. Board led the Spiders with one hit, one run and two RBI and three other Richmond players contributed one hit and one RBI a piece. Brian Keeney led the Rams at the plate with one hit and two RBI.
In the first inning, senior Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del.) walked, before left fielder Board (Raleigh, N.C.) knocked in LeNoir with a single up the middle. The Rams answered with three runs on four hits in the fourth inning, including a two-run home run by Brian Keeney.
Richmond cut Fordham's lead to one, 3-2, in the fifth when freshman Matt McKenna (Richmond, Va.) doubled to right center, allowing Chris Dolan (Holmdel, N.J.) to score. Dolan reached base when he was hit by a pitch, to open the inning.
In the eighth, Richmond scored three runs on two hits and the score stood at 5-3. LeNoir reached base on an error to open the inning and then Bryan Pritz (Willmette, Ill.) walked before Board reached on an error, allowing LeNoir to cross the plate. Alex Wotring (Bethesda, Md.) singled to right field and knocked in Pritz and then Dolan singled to the shortstop, allowing Board to score.
Fordham posted its final run of the contest in the ninth inning.
Nathan Kuchta (Victor, N.Y.) allowed one run, two hits and struck out five to post the win for Richmond. David Rodriguez allowed two hits and four runs and took the loss for the Rams.
The Spiders return to the field when they travel to face Old Dominion on Wednesday, April 14 at 7:00 p.m.
