Baseball Crushes Duquesne 13-5 In A-10 Action

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Senior catcher Chris Dolan went 3-for-4, including four RBI and his first home run of the season to lead the University of Richmond baseball team to a 13-5 victory against Duquesne University in the second contest of the doubleheader this afternoon at Pitt Field.
Richmond (20-16, 8-3 A-10) tallied its 13 runs on 15 hits and out hit the Dukes (12-18, 5-6 A-10) 15-8. Left fielder A.J. Board (Raleigh, N.C.) went 3-for-3 with an RBI and three other UR players contributed two hits to the offensive attack. Steve Maiolo registered two hits and one RBI for Duquesne.
The Dukes posted the first run of the game in the first inning, but the Spiders responded with three runs in their half of the frame. Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) singled, Jim Fasano (Horsham, Pa.) walked and then Board recorded his first double and knocked in Zeskind. Matt McKenna (Richmond, Va.) followed with an RBI single to right center.
In the second inning, the Spiders registered seven runs highlighted by Dolan's solo home run and Fasano's two-run dinger over the right field wall. It was the first baseman's 12th homer of the season and second of the day.
The Duke and the Spiders each tallied three runs apiece in the fourth inning and the score stood at 13-4. Jim O'Leary (Wantagh, N.Y.) walked, Board doubled down the left field line and then Dolan hit a two-run single to center. Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del.) singled to the shortstop and scored Alex Wotring (Bethesda, Md.), who had reached base on a walk. Duquesne posted its final run in the seventh inning.
Freshman Rob Berzinskas (Clinton, Conn.) allowed only seven hits and struck out six in his six innings pitched and posted his third win of the season. Scott Chisholm allowed ten runs on eight hits and took the loss for the Dukes.
The Spiders and Dukes complete their series Sunday afternoon at Noon.
