Women's Lacrosse Falls To Temple

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Seniors Libby Berlacher, Jen Cielewich and Polly Purcell each netted two goals as the University of Richmond women's lacrosse team fell to Temple, 11-9, this afternoon at Lacrosse Field. The Spiders record falls to 6-9 and 2-4 in the Atlantic 10, while the Owls improve to 9-7 overall and 6-1 in conference action.
Temple's Corey Leader scored the first two goals of the game and gave Temple a 2-0 start.
Freshman Ashley Friend (Canandaigua, N.Y.) registered the first Spider goal off a pass from sophomore Allison Nuzzi (Baltimore, Md.) at the 4:57 mark. Sophomore Caroline McGuire's (Darien, Conn.) goal at 7:47 tied the game at 2-2, while Berlacher (Villanova, Pa.) gave Richmond the lead 30 seconds later and capped a 3-0 run for Richmond.
The Owls added another goal at 15:42 by Marie DesMarias before the Spiders tallied three consecutive goals. Purcell tallied her second goal of the game at the 28:02 mark, before Johna Capaldo of Temple answered giving Richmond a 7-5 lead into halftime.
Temple quickly responded with two consecutive goals before Cielewich (Severna Park, Md.) put Richmond back on the board, 8-7, at 39:58.
Temple rallied four goals before junior Kristen Habicht (Baltimore, Md.) knotted the final goal of the game.
In the goal Jackie Swansburg garnered 12 saves, while Temple keeper Megan McLouth had eight.
The Spiders will honor their four seniors and host Saint Joseph's on May 2nd at noon, in the final regular season home game.
