Baseball Returns To Pitt Field This Week

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond baseball team is back in action this week when it hosts, Liberty on Tuesday and Towson on Wednesday, game time for both is 3 p.m. The Spiders have had the past week off, due to the cancellation of their three-game conference series against Massachusetts, originally scheduled for this past weekend in Amherst, Mass.
Right-hander Jason Bolinski (2-0) is the probable starter for the Spiders (14-10) on Tuesday and freshman Rob Berzinskas will open the contest on Wednesday. Bolinski posts a team-best 3.16 ERA and has struck out 32 in his 37.0 innings pitched. Berzinskas posts a 2-1 record and a 2.74 ERA in his 23.0 innings on the mound.
The Flames (15-12) post a four-game winning streak, including a two-game sweep of High Point April 4-3. Jeremiah Boles leads Liberty with 41 hits and a .390 batting average. Towson (10-14) faced Hofstra this past weekend and won one out of three games. The Flames will face High Point Monday evening and the Tigers host Temple on Tuesday, before both travels to take-on the Spiders.
Richmond continues Atlantic 10 action when it hosts Fordham University Friday and Saturday, April 9-10. Friday is a seven inning game beginning at 3 p.m. and Saturday is doubleheader, a seven and a nine inning contest, starting at noon. Please make note this series was originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
GAME NOTES
The Series
Richmond leads the all-time series against Liberty, 22-11 and have won eight of the last 10 meetings, including the two last year. The Spiders have not lost to the Flames at Pitt Field since April 14, 1992. Towson and UR first met in 1981 and Richmond leads the series, 18-7. In 2003 each team won at its home field and the Spiders have won seven of the last ten contests against the Tigers.
The Coaches
This is only Liberty head coach Matt Royer's second year as a Flame and he posts a 17-37 record, 0-2 against head coach Ron Atkins. Mike Gottlieb has been with Towson for 16 seasons and has tallied a 403-391-5 record, including a 3-14 against Atkins. Gottlieb has only won at Pitt Field once, in 2001.
No Runs For You
Right-hander Jason Bolinski threw his second career shutout in a three-hit, complete game victory against Saint Joseph's, in the first game of the doubleheader on March 27.
Welcome Back...Pritz
Senior Bryan Pritz returned to the field on Saturday, March 27 for the first time since February 22. The center fielder was out due to a broken hand suffered in the Spiders first tournament of the season, in Charleston, S.C.
