Baseball Falls To Liberty 20-9

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty University posted 14 unanswered runs in two innings and defeated the University of Richmond baseball team 20-9 at Worthington Stadium in Lynchburg, Va. this afternoon.
Bryan Pritz and Jim Fasano each contributed three hits and three other Spiders added two hits a piece. Michael Just went 4-for-5 including three RBI and Phillip Laurent contributed four hits and six RBI for the Flames.
Richmond (25-20, 12-6 A-10) and Liberty (21-26) each put one run on the board in the first.
In the second the Spiders added three runs on three hits, all doubles. Chris Dolan doubled to right, Josh Farkes doubled down the right field line and knocked in Dolan. Pritz recorded an RBI double and then scored when Alex Wotring drew a walk with the bases loaded. The Flames posted two runs in their half of the frame.
Richmond's four-run third was highlighted by senior Bobby LeNoir's three-run home run, his second homer of the season. Liberty answered with three runs on four hits and the score stood at 8-6 after three innings.
The Spiders registered their final run of the contest in the fourth before the Flames posted their 14 unanswered runs, eight in the fifth inning and six in the seventh.
UR split the time on the mound between seven players, including two who made their first career appearance, sophomore Andrew Justice and freshman Matt McKenna. Freshman Sean Radke took the loss after allowing five runs on four hits. Michael Schaeffer allowed only one run on five hits and took the win for the Flames.
Richmond is back in action when it hosts La Salle for a three-game conference series this weekend.
