UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond third-year head coach LaRee Sugg announced that Natasha Lopez Moreira, a member of Paraguay's National Team, has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Spiders for the 2004-05 season.
A young star with vast international experience, Moreira competed in the South American Junior Championship each of the past two years as well as the Las Araucarias Ladies International Championship in 2003. In June, she won the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier in Jacksonville, Fla.
"We are extremely fortunate to add Natasha to our line-up," Sugg said. "She will add the depth we need by bringing international playing experience. Moreover, she is an outstanding individual whose fun-loving personality, goal-setting ability, work ethic, and dedication to academic achievement make her an ideal fit for our program. I look for Natasha to be an impact player with the potential to contend for a conference medal."
Moreira won the Junior National Championship and earned Best Player at the Campeonato Nacional Interclubes in 2002. She has also played in the Callaway Junior World Golf Championship, U.S. Girls qualifier and the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship.
Moreira gained additional experience at the David Leadbetter, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer Golf Academies. An outstanding student, she was a member of the National Honor Society and earned Outstanding Student of the Year at the Saddlebrook Prep School.
Moreira won nine events in 2002 and 2003.
