PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jermaine Bucknor scored 18 points and Richmond ran off the last eight points of the game in defeating La Salle 78-71 on Wednesday night.
Kevin Steenberge and Jamaal Scott each had 14 points for Richmond (8-9 3-3 Atlantic-10), which snapped an eight-game road losing streak.
Steve Smith, the leading scorer in the conference, had 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Explorers (5-12, 1-5) while Jermaine Thomas added 16.
A layup by Mike St. John gave La Salle a 71-70 lead with 1:36 to play, but a putback by Steenberge put the Spiders ahead and a pair of foul shots by Daon Merritt started a string of six consecutive free throws to clinch the victory.
Richmond led throughout much of the first half, paced by four 3-point shots by Bucknor to take a 40-39 edge into halftime.
The Spiders hit on 7-of-15 3-pointers in the half, while La Salle made on 3-of-11 beyond the arc but were paced by Smith's 15 points and nine rebounds.
