UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond senior Allie Howard was named Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Player of Week, officials announced Monday afternoon. Howard, a midfielder for the Spiders, notched two goals in each of Richmond's two conference wins over the weekend, including the game-winner Friday against UMass at Crenshaw Field.
Howard, a Second Team All-American in 2004, scored the Spiders' second goal of the game against UMass Friday. She was then part of Richmond's third goal by way of an assist, and closed out the game with a redirect goal in the 55th minute.
Two days later Howard scored two of the Spiders' eight goals against Rhode Island at Crenshaw Field. The Lancaster, Pa., native scored her two goals on penalty corner attempts.
This season, Howard, the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year in 2004 and Offensive Player of the Year in 2003, has five total goals on 18 shots and two assists. She leads the team with two defensive saves on the season and four goals in A-10 play.
The Spiders will wrap up the home portion of their regular season this weekend when they host Saint Joseph's, Friday, Oct. 14 at 3:30 p.m. Richmond will play its final regular season home contest Sunday, Oct. 16, against Temple at noon. Prior to the game, the Spiders will celebrate Howard along with the rest of the 2005 senior class.
