RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Stacy Tutt ran for one touchdown and passed for a second Saturday, leading Richmond past No. 22 Delaware 20-10 in Atlantic 10 Conference football.
The game was played at Richmond; Delaware's field had been deemed unplayable. The Blue Hens (3-3, 0-3) had dropped their first three league games for the first time since starting the 1987 Yankee Conference with a 0-3 record.
The Spiders (3-3, 3-1) got off to a 3-0 lead on a 21-yard field goal by Joseph Fore with 2:08 remaining in the first quarter. On the ensuing kickoff, Delaware failed to pick up the ball, and Richmond's Stephen Howell recovered on the Blue Hens' 30.
Tutt connected with Matt Hale for an 8-yard touchdown on the first play of the second quarter, giving Richmond a 10-0 lead.
The Blue Hens tallied on Zach Hobby's 22-yard field goal with 8:50 remaining. Richmond capped a 79-yard, eight-play drive on Tutt's three-yard run with 27 seconds remaining in the half, giving the Spiders a 17-3 halftime lead.
Fore's 40-yard field goal at the end of the third quarter gave the Spiders a 20-3 lead.
The Blue Hens wrapped up the scoring on quarterback Sonny Riccio's 6-yard run with 5:25 remaining in the game.
Tutt completed 16 of 25 passes for 212 yards. Wide receiver Arman Shields matched his career high with nine receptions for 106 yards. Tutt also led the Spiders in rushing with 73 yards. Riccio was 21-of-38 for 234 yards.
The Spiders held Delaware to 108 yards rushing.
