UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond senior Lesley Russell was named Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Player of Week, officials announced Monday evening. Russell, a defender for the Spiders, notched two goals and two assists over the weekend as Richmond extended its win streak to four games in 2005.
Russell, a native of Dallas, Texas, scored a goal and an assist in the Spiders' 9-1 whipping of Saint Joseph's, and recorded another goal and assist in Richmond's 4-0 win against Temple.
Russell, who is a mainstay in the Spiders' defense, helped limit Richmond's opposition to just five shots on cage over the weekend. She also played a vital role in picking up the Spiders' second A-10 shutout in 2005.
The Spiders, who played their final regular season home game Sunday against Temple, will now wrap up the season with four-straight on the road, beginning Friday, Oct. 21, at La Salle. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. Richmond will be looking for 24th-straight regular season A-10 win and its 29th-straight win against A-10 competition when it faces the Explorers.
