UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond senior Whitney Wells and freshman Alex Malatesta picked up Atlantic 10 weekly Field Hockey honors, officials announced Monday afternoon. Wells, a forward from Clayton, Del., was named Co-Player of the Week with Saint Louis' Maria Wasserman. Malatesta, a forward from North Wales, Pa., was named Rookie of the Week after helping the Spiders to two-straight A-10 wins over the weekend.
Wells and Malatesta each garnered hat tricks in the Spiders' 9-0 beating of West Chester Sunday afternoon. For Wells, it was her second hat trick of the season. She also garnered three goals in Richmond's 9-1 win over Rhode Island.
Malatesta, who had scored just two goals prior to the contest at West Chester, notched the first hat trick of her career. Malatesta has now scored four goals in the last four games she has play for the Spiders.
Richmond's next action comes Wednesday, Oct. 26, when it travels to Charlottesville, Va., to face Virginia at 5 p.m. Next weekend the Spiders get back on the road for their 2005 regular season finale in St. Louis, Mo., against the Saint Louis Billikens.
