
Field Hockey Travels To No. 20 Virginia

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Spider field hockey team will travel to Charlottesville, Va., Wednesday, Oct. 26 to face 20th-ranked Virginia at 5 p.m. in its final non-conference game of the season. The Spiders, who are riding a six-game win streak which includes all six of their conference wins, are 11-5 overall and 6-0 in the A-10. The `Hoos are 8-8 overall, and coming off a 1-0 loss at No. 1 Wake Forest over the weekend.
The Spiders will be looking to extend their win streak in the all-time series against the Cavaliers. Richmond has won the last three in the series which dates back to 1982. Prior to the three-game win streak, the Spiders failed to pick up a win against UVA in 13 games. Last season Richmond came away with a 2-1 win in Richmond, but the team is just 1-9 in games played in Charlottesville including its 1-0 win in 2003.
Sophomore Shannon Taylor leads the squad with 12 goals and six game-winners. The Midlothian, Va., native scored one of the Spiders' two goals in last season's win of the `Hoos, along with senior Allie Howard. This season Howard has scored five goals and passed out three assists.
Senior Whitney Wells, one of the reigning Atlantic 10 Co-Players of the Week, is coming off a hat trick against West Chester, which marked her second three-goal game of the season.
Katie Phillips leads the Cavaliers with 11 goals on 63 shots, and also has five assists on the season. Katherine Blair leads the UVA defense in cage with a goals-against average of 1.93. She has one shutout on the season and sports a save percentage of .697.
This weekend the Spiders will make their final regular season road trip to St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 30, to take on the Billikens of Saint Louis. The Spiders' final regular season game of 2005 is scheduled for 2 p.m. (EST).
