UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond senior goalkeeper Michelle Swartz picked up Atlantic 10 weekly Field Hockey honors, officials announced Monday afternoon. Swartz, a keeper from Severna Park, Md., was named A-10 Player of the Week after shutting out two opponents last week, and extending her shutout streak to 151 minutes.
Swartz led the Spiders past No. 20 Virginia, 1-0, last Wednesday, by turning away three shots by the Cavaliers. She made two saves in the Spiders' 3-0 win over Saint Louis, and now has a shutout streak of 151 minutes dating back to the overtime win at La Salle, Oct. 21. Swartz's two shutouts last week were her fifth and sixth of the season, and the 33rd and 34th of her career.
Richmond, which went undefeated in the A-10 for the fourth-straight year, will serve as the A-10 Championships' top-seed and face fourth-seeded Saint Joseph's at 4 p.m., Nov. 4, in Philadelphia, Pa. The Atlantic 10 Championships will conclude with the final game at 2 p.m. Nov. 5. Temple, the tournament's second-seed, will serve as the host school and face third-seeded UMass at 2 p.m. Nov. 4.
