UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond senior quarterback Stacy Tutt, along with freshman defensive back Seth Williams picked up weekly Atlantic 10 Football honors, officials announced Sunday afternoon. Tutt, a native of Tappahannock, Va., was named the A-10 Offensive Player of the Week after garnering 329 of Richmond's 459 yards of total offense in the Spiders' 48-21 win over Towson, Saturday. Williams, a Fayetteville, N.C., native was selected as Co-Rookie of the Week after picking off his first career pass and returning it 53 yards against the Tigers.
Tutt rushed for a career-high 144 yards on just nine carries, while scoring two TD's. His two runs to paydirt were both career-bests including a 59-yarder and then a 75-yarder, both in the third quarter. The two-time 2005 Player of the Week honoree also finished the day going 14-for-22 for 185 yards and two touchdowns through the air. The 100-yard rushing game was the third of his career and marked the second-straight week he has eclipsed the 100-yard mark on the ground.
Williams' pick in the fourth quarter led to the Spiders' final touchdown of the game. The freshman corner, who made six solo stops in the game, returned the interception 53 yards down to the Towson 27-yard line. The 53 yard return marked the longest interception return this season for the Spiders.
Richmond (7-3, 6-1 A10) clinched the Atlantic 10 South Division with its win over Towson Saturday, and is tied for the Atlantic 10 Conference lead with UMass and New Hampshire at 6-1 in the league. The Spiders' final opponent will be William & Mary (5-5, 3-4 A10), Saturday, Nov. 19 at UR Stadium, marking the 115th meeting all-time between the two schools. The fourth-oldest rivalry in college football is set to kickoff at 1 p.m. Prior to kickoff the Spider Football program will honor all of its fourth and fifth-year seniors.
