Spider Swimming & Diving Falls To No. 18 North Carolina, 173-122

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond Swimming and Diving squad picked up five individual wins and a relay win, but dropped the duel, 173-122 to the 18th-ranked Tar Heels of North Carolina. Freshman Lauren Beaudreau picked up three individual wins, while sophomore Jessica Witt and junior Emily Bateman also picked up individual honors.
Beaudreau began her triple-win day by going 58.82 in the 100 back to take home top honors. Later, in the 200 breast she logged a season-best time of 2:19.86, moving herself into second all-time at Richmond. Her final win came in the 200 IM when she turned in a time of 2:05.52, fourth best ever in the event at Richmond.
The Spiders also picked up a relay win on the day, going 4:09.99 in the 400 free event. The team, comprised of junior Alicia Crossman, sophomore Anastasia Lau, junior Holly Hinds and junior Kara Swift finished just ahead the second-place Richmond team.
Junior Emily Bateman garnered her second consecutive 100 free win, going 53.34, .02 off her season-best set last weekend. Along with Bateman, freshman CJ Pisano finished second and Witt came in third to sweep the event.
Later in the day Witt garnered her second-straight 500 free win, going a season-best 4:57.35. Her time was just .01 seconds off her all-time Richmond best which currently ranks second all-time in the Spider record books.
The Spiders will have two weeks off before returning to the pool at the Terrapin Invitational in College Park, Md. Swims at the event begin Nov. 17 and will end Nov. 19. Last season the Spiders took home second-place honors at the Invite, behind a 13th-ranked Maryland Terrapin team.
