UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond senior John Ciccarelli (South Bury, Conn.) was one of seven student-athletes named to the Atlantic 10 Men's Cross Country Academic All-Conference Team in voting conducted among the conference's sports information directors.
The chemistry major finished third at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Championship to earn all-conference honors for the second year in a row and then took 19th at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship to earn his second-straight all-region selection.
Ciccarelli, who was the 2004 Atlantic 10 individual champion, ran the 8K at this year's conference championship in 24:43.3, which broke the previous course record at Belmont Plateau. Unfortunately for Ciccarelli, two other runners also beat the course record on the same day at the 30-year old course.
Ciccarelli finished 19th at the NCAA Southeast Regional, finishing the 10K course in 30:39.9 to earn All-Southeast Region honors for the second-straight year. He posted five top-10 finishes this season, including a fifth-place finish at the Great American Cross Country Festival, and was named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week twice.
The Richmond men's cross country team finished fifth out of 14 teams at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Championships.
