Women's Basketball Plays Final Home Game

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's basketball team plays its final home contest of the season on Thursday night when it hosts La Salle University at 7:00 p.m. The Spiders will recognize their seniors in a brief pre-game ceremony. The game can be heard live in the Richmond area on WRNL 910 AM and worldwide on the internet at www.richmondspiders.com.
The Spiders (18-5, 9-3) are currently tied for second place in the conference's West Division after falling in their last outing to George Washington. Richmond is led by senior Kate Flavin with 17.6 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game. She is averaging a double-double in conference play with 16.0 points and 10.5 rebounds and is the only players to be averaging double-figures in the rebounding column.
La Salle (10-13, 4-8) has dropped its last two contests, to Xavier and Dayton, after winning a consecutive pair for the first time in 2005 the weekend before. Sophomore Christa Ricketts is the Explorers' leading scorer with 15.6 points per game.
Earlier in the season, the Spiders recorded a 61-54 win over La Salle in Philadelphia for their conference-opening contest. In that game, Flavin led Richmond with a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds and seven other players scored.
GAME NOTES
THE MATCH-UP
The Spiders look to win their final home game of the season as they face La Salle on Thursday night. Richmond's seniors will be recognized prior to the start of the game. The Spiders lost their last contest and are currently tied for second in the conference's West Division. La Salle has dropped its last two games.
THE SERIES
Tonight marks the 11th meeting between the two schools with the series tied at 5-5. The teams first met on January 5, 1987 and the Explorers earned a 69-60 win. Richmond has won all three games at the Robins Center.
THE COACHES
Richmond head coach Joanne Boyle is in her third year with the Spiders and has posted a 63-25 mark during that time. She is 3-2 against the Explorers. La Salle head coach Tom Lochner is in his first year and currently owns a 10-13 mark with the Explorers. Previously, Lochner spent 17 years as an assistant coach at La Salle.
LAST TIME OUT
The Spiders suffered a 63-47 loss to George Washington on Sunday afternoon in an Atlantic 10 Television contest. Senior Kate Flavin led the team with 19 points and 11 rebounds and was the only starter to hit a field goal in the first half. No other Richmond player scored over five points.
