Women's Basketball Receives Academic Accolade

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond junior Saona Chapman (Voluntown, Conn.) was named to the Academic All-District III University Division Women's Basketball Second Team as announced yesterday by ESPN The Magazine. District III consists of universities in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia and members of CoSIDA selected the teams from a list of 31 nominees.
Chapman, a 5-8 guard, has started all 24 games this year for the Spiders and ranks second on the team in scoring. She leads the team in assists and three-point field goals and is currently second in the Atlantic 10 in assists. Earlier this year, she was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference First Team.
She is majoring in Leadership Studies with a minor in religion and posted a 3.48 GPA for the fall semester.
