WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Richmond's junior Brooke Boncher wrapped up the final day of competition at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with a 24th-place finish in the prelims of the 100 free with a 49.82. The junior was unable to qualify for the evening finals in the event, but came away from the Championships at Purdue University's Boilermaker Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Ind., with a 14th-place finish in the 50 free and an All-America finish of sixth in the 100 fly. Her performance garnered a program-best 28th-place for Richmond.
"I thought her race was a real good swim," head coach Matt Kredich said. "It just was not enough to get her into the evening swims. I think all-in-all this was a great meet for Brooke."
Her time of 49.82 was three hundreths off her personal best and Richmond record of 49.79 set at the Terrapin Cup, Nov. 20, 2004.
The 2005 Women's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships will be tape-delay televised Friday, March 25, at 2 p.m. on ESPN2. Portions of Boncher's races may be shown.
The junior will now prepare to compete at the U.S. National Championships for a spot in the World University Games. For more information about Boncher's upcoming competitions check the official athletics website of the Richmond Spiders, www.RichmondSpiders.com.
