PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The University of Richmond men's basketball team is in Pittsburgh, Pa. where it will face Duquesne on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
Richmond lost to La Salle 67-56 Saturday night in the Robins Center to end a two-game winning streak. The Spiders will be playing just their fourth game on an opponent's court. Richmond is 0-3 as the away team and 1-1 on a neutral court.
The Spiders (7-7, 0-1 Atlantic 10) are looking to move back above .500 overall and even their conference record against a Duquesne (2-11, 0-2 Atlantic 10) team that has lost five-straight.
Richmond received some bad news Monday when red-shirt freshman Jarhon Giddings was put on the injured list indefinitely. Giddings red-shirted last season due to problems with his shins, and while he started the first 14 games of the season, he has suffered a setback. Giddings is averaging 19 minutes per game, 4.8 points and 2.7 rebounds. He had come on strong as of late scoring in double figures in two of the last four games with nine 3-pointers in that stretch.
The loss of Giddings has Richmond down to just seven scholarship players in head coach Chris Mooney's first season.
Junior Gaston Moliva will step in for Giddings in the starting lineup Wednesday night. The Spiders had used the same starting lineup for the first 14 games this season, but Moliva has started 10 games in his Richmond career.
Moliva is coming off scoring a season-high 14 points and tying a season high with eight rebounds against La Salle on Saturday.
After facing Duquesne, the Spiders return home for two games, hosting Dayton on Saturday at 2 p.m. and then hosting Saint Louis on Jan. 18.
