UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond men's basketball team plays its first game of 2006, wrapping up the non-conference schedule with a home game against Longwood on Monday in the Robins Center.
Richmond is 6-6 on the season, already having won more non-conference games than last season. The Spiders are coming off a 52-50 win over William & Mary on Saturday. Richmond will be looking for back-to-back victories for the second time this season.
"We're looking for some consistency," Richmond head coach Chris Mooney said. "That's what the difference is between good teams and great teams. Great teams that play with consistency are able to pull out a win even when they don't play great. We're looking to get to that point."
Richmond is 5-2 at the Robins Center this season as it plays in the building for the fourth time in the last five games. The Spiders will play their third-straight home game on Saturday against La Salle in Richmond's Atlantic 10 Conference opener.
The Spiders continue to lead the nation in fewest points allowed, holding teams to just 51.9 points per game. Richmond has held 11 of its 12 opponents under 60 points and no team has reached 65 points against the Spiders.
Longwood enters the game with a 3-11 record, but is coming off an 86-69 win over Long Island on Friday. The Lancers like to push the ball and are averaging 74.1 points per game. Richmond has held 11 of its 12 opponents to a double-digit drop-off from its scoring average against all other teams.
The game can be followed here at RichmondSpiders.com by Gametracker and audio broadcast on the Spider Sports Network with Bob Black doing play-by-play and Greg Beckwith as the analyst.
