Jobes, who was an outstanding track athlete and member of the varsity cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field teams, was killed Dec. 20, 2005 in a car accident while driving home for the Holidays. Before joining the University of Richmond, Ryan attended Williamstown High School in Williamstown, West Virginia where he excellent in track, cross country, tennis, basketball, and golf. This prestigious award recognizes the top track & field athlete in the state each year.
He lead the Yellow Jackets in back-to-back state championships titles in 2003 and 2004 by winning the 400-meter, 800 and 1,600 events and anchoring the 4x400 relay teams to first place. Each event he competed in at the WVSSAC state championships in 2003 and 2004 he set state records.

While a member of the Spiders' teams, he excelled in the middle distance events placing third in the 800 at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. At the Duke Invitational, he anchored the 4x400 relay to their season-best performance with a 48.2 split. He was twice honored as the Atlantic 10 Rookie of The Week.
"We continue to struggle with Ryan's accident. Our team misses him and is at a loss", said men's coach Steve Taylor. "He was a remarkable young man...extremely humble, considerate, hard working and someone that everyone considered a close, true friend. Even as a sophomore he was a great leader for our program. He made everyone smile and was one of those rare people that, no matter how he was feeling would make every effort to make you feel better. "
Ryan's family, in conjunction with Williamstown High School, has created a scholarship fund in his name at Williamstown (W.V.) High School. The scholarship will recognize and award a Williamstown High student with outstanding achievement in athletics, academics, and citizenship. Ryan's Richmond track & field teammates are collecting money from University of Richmond donors, friends and Alumni to send as one gift.
