BRONX, N.Y. - Ashleigh Blumer, Julia Bizer and Kelsey Rdzanek each netted a goal to lead the Richmond Spiders to a 3-2 win over Fordham University in Atlantic 10 action on Jack Coffey Field in Bronx, N.Y. on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Richmond earned its fourth straight victory over the Rams, taking a 6-1 lead in the Richmond-Fordham series, and improved to 2-12-2 overall, 2-5 in the conference, while the Rams suffered it's second consecutive A-10 loss, falling to 10-6 overall, 4-3 in the Atlantic 10.
The Rams got on the board first as Leah Jerome fed Courtney Fedge in the box and Fedge one-timed a shot on the ground past Richmond keeper Kate Hudson in the 22nd minute from ten yards.
The Spiders responded five minutes later when Blumer took a direct kick from 20 yards that found its way around Fordham keeper Allie Cacciotti to the far post in the 25th minute. The goal was Blumer's second on the season.
Bizer then gave Richmond a 2-1 lead in the 34th minute as she collected a loose ball and got off a blast from 25 yards that found the far top corner, earning her third goal of the season.
The game remained a 2-1 contest until the 83rd minute when Rdzanek took a long pass from Nora Mann and went on Cacciotti alone, beating the keeper on the ground from 15 yards, earning her first collegiate goal.
Following the Rdzanek goal, Fordham had two chances to close the gap, but shots by Corey Cerrato in the 87th minute and Jerome in the 88th minute both hit the cross bar.
The Rams did managed to put one in with seven seconds remaining as Katie Sanchez collected a Jerome corner kick and beat Hudson from ten yards out; however it was not enough as regulation time ran out with the Spiders' still holding a one-goal advantage.
Following this weekend's competition, the Spiders will return home for their final two contests of regular season play. The Spiders will host Dayton on Friday, October 27 in a special senior night contest and Xavier on Sunday, October 29 in their final game of the regular season.
