Richmond Head Coach Chris Mooney
On Radford's Defensive Intensity:
"Radford not only played well, but really took the game to us. They were much more aggressive right from the start."
On the Defensive Pressure from Radford:
"We didn't handle their full court press well, whether it was man-to-man or zone. And that kind of takes you out of your rhythm and out of your flow."
On Richmond's Defense
"Our defense wasn't good in any stretch. They got a dunk early and a couple of easy shots. Our defense was O.K. maybe for a little bit in the second half when we made a run, but for the most part all night I don't think it was good at all."
On Radford's Pressure
"Our guards had been very solid up to this point, but we didn't handle that pressure well. The whole team, from the front line guys coming back to help out, the guards not being able to identify and handle the press, it was everybody."
On Richmond's Slow Start
"I thought we had a good shoot-around today, probably one of our best, everything was crisp. Not sure what it was, Radford really took it to us in every facet of the game. I don't know if we were surprised by that aggressiveness that they showed or just a little bit overwhelmed because we got down early. Whatever it was, they just seemed to be the much more aggressive team the entire night."
On Richmond's Sluggish Play
"We didn't shoot well, but that's going to happen, we didn't pass well and we didn't handle the ball well, but those things are going to happen, but our confidence wasn't great. I think we were a little startled by the way they were playing and weren't able to recover until little too late the second half when it was too late. That confidence, that fire, it seems like Pete is the only one that makes these hustle plays that you see in college basketball that help turn the tide. He takes the charge, he's diving for loose balls. We need more than one guy making those types of contributions."
On The Freshmen
"That's what's going to happen with the highs and lows, and ups and downs. Maybe they were overconfident because how we played the first three games at home. I just wish it didn't come as lapse in effort or lapse in concentration. I understand if it's in shooting or other technical parts of game, I just wish it hadn't happen in terms of our hustle and how hard we're playing."
On What Needs to Improve:
"The number one thing we're trying to develop is consistency."
Freshman Dan Geriot
On Why Richmond Started So Poorly
"It's kind of hard to put a finger on one thing. I think they startled us when they came at us with so much pressure and we started to turn the ball over."
On Richmond's Defense
"Defensively from the opening tip we didn't play as aggressively as we should have. We knew most of their sets, we just didn't execute trying to stop them, it just didn't happen."
On The Spiders' Offensive Struggles
"We have to be more patient. Patience is what makes our offense work, it makes it work pretty well. Once the patience came in, we were scoring at will. We just have to do that from the opening tip."
Radford Head Coach Byron Samuels
On How Much This Win Means for the Program:
"Certainly with Richmond's history in the state and nationally, it's probably as good as I've had since I've been here."
On Radford's Defensive Strategy:
"Our game plan was to try to mix up our defense as much as possible, to not let them get into a rhythm with what they do. They're so precise offensively."
On Richmond's Offense:
"If you allow them to run their offense, they're so good at doing it, even with a young team, we just did not think that would be to our advantage."
Radford's Kenny Thomas
On Pressuring Richmond
"We wanted to pressure the ball and get out on shooters, because they're a great shooting team, from what I've heard."
