Richmond Coach Chris Mooney
On The Game
"I thought that we played extremely well, we controlled the game. We put ourselves in a position to have an opportunity to win, right up until the end of the game. I'm proud of the way we played. I thought if anything we could have played a little better defensively, especially in the first half. Having said that, I think we put ourselves in a position to win the game. If a few more shots fall, we have a chance."
On Protecting The Ball
"To only turn the ball over seven times against GW is really quite an accomplishment. Especially for us, because they pressured us on every single possession. I thought Pete (Thomas) Oumar (Sylla) and Duncan (McLean) did a great job in the backcourt and the forwards did a great job helping them out. Again to only have seven turnovers is terrific."
On Kevin Steenberge's Shot That Would Have Cut The Gap To Four
"Not to point a finger at anybody, but if you make a shot like that it cuts it to four. How does GW respond on the road in a good atmosphere. Basketball is such a game of momentum. We had a great look, ran good offense to get him that, so as a coach I'm pleased with that. Certainly wish he made the shot, but we had other opportunities. Whether in the first half we kept them closer to us or in the second half we got back in the game quicker. We didn't quite shoot well enough."
On George Washington
"They're terrific. One thing they don't get enough credit for is they are a very good passing team, they share the ball. They are very skillful. I think everyone sees how fast and athletic they are and they underestimate how skillful they are. They're much more skillful and better at more basketball things than they get credit for."
On Richmond's Losing Streak
"We haven't necessarily talked about losing games in a row. When we were 4-2 in the A-10 we didn't talk about being 4-2. We're trying to get as good as we can and improve as much as we can. We've certainly had a good first season in building this program. I don't see guys in a tailspin. I think the effort is there and I would expect nothing less than a good practice Monday."
Richmond Junior Peter Thomas
On Limiting Turnovers Against GW's Pressure
"When we played them at their place we turned it over 20-plus times. Knowing we can handle pressure like that gives us confidence. I think we were better prepared for it this time. They had full-court pressure on us the whole time, so it's a positive to only have seven turnovers with limited guys. We had a few shots here and there and we're right there in the game."
On Dealing With Fatigue
"You would hope it doesn't affect guys that are 18 to 22 years old. Coach always tells us we're only playing basketball. Especially when you have a great crowd and a great atmosphere like tonight, you don't get tired. It's basketball, if you want to win, you don't let yourself get tired. I don't think we're going to be any more tired in these last four games than we were in the first four games."
On GW
"They hit big shots against us. A couple of times they hit shots when we had hands in their face. We cut it to seven, had a chance to cut it to less than that, but they hit a 3. That's what makes them a top 10 team. They hit big shots when they need them. They've been hitting big shots all year. I think they're going to do well in the postseason."
George Washington Coach Karl Hobbs
"That was a very well played game, played well form standpoint that both teams were trying to force their style and force their will upon each other. Fortunately for us we were able to make key baskets, key stops, and while we did not force a lot of turnovers, when we did turn them over, we converted them to baskets at the most opportune times."
On Pulling Out The Win
"Obviously Carl Elliott hit some big shots down the stretch. I thought we played very well today. I hope we continue to play well. At this point in the season we need to continue to do things we need to do to become a good basketball team. Hopefully we keep everyone focused, and keep every on one on the same page."
On Finally Winning In The Robins Center
"I think one of the things we wanted to do was win in some of these buildings that we haven't won in. Now that's been accomplished. Our next goal is to defend our Atlantic 10 championship and then play our best basketball come tournament time."
On Jermaine Bucknor
"Buckner is a great player. He made a lot of shots and kept them in the game. He's a great player and a great person. Our guys really like him a lot. Pops really likes Steenberge, too. Sometimes I think he likes playing with him too much."
