Williams Earns Second Rookie Of The Week Honor

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond freshman guard Sarah Williams (Wilmington, Del.) was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 10.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in the Spiders' two upsets of the top two teams in the conference. Williams hit two threes in the Spiders' two-point win over No. 19 Temple and shot 3-4 from the three-point line in the Spiders' 82-64 victory over Atlantic 10 leader Charlotte. Williams, who is averaging 5.8 ppg overall and 7.8 ppg in Atlantic 10 play, has notched double figures in six of the last eight games for Richmond.
Williams joined the Spiders from Ursuline Academy where she earned four varsity letters, averaging 17.1 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. She served as a team captain for two years, leading her squad to two state championships and scoring over 1,000 career points. The two-time Street & Smith All-American honorable mention was named to the All-State and All-Region First Teams as a senior. A true athlete, Williams also played two years of soccer and four years of volleyball in which she was twice selected to the All-State First Team and named the Gatorade Player of the Year after leading her team to three consecutive state titles.
Williams and the Spiders return to action on Friday when they will travel up north for a contest with the St. Bonaventure Bonnies at 7:00 p.m.
